Thoughts from John Wesley

John Wesley

I am not afraid that the people called Methodists should ever cease to exist either in Europe or America. But I am afraid lest they should only exist as a dead sect, having the form of religion without the power. And this undoubtedly will be the case unless they hold fast both the doctrine, spirit, and discipline with which they first set out.

Methodist Membership cards are issued every year, sometimes at the beginning of the Methodist year – September 1st, or at our annual Covenant service in February. Each year they remind us of an important biblical passage.

This year we read: Day by day, as they spent much time together in the temple, they broke bread at home, and ate their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having the goodwill of all the people. And day by day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.

Acts 2 v 46-47
